Making Headway

Hey All,

Just keeping this running update going for you, have gotten a bit more work done on the vamp and his chair...

Will Probably add a chainmail overcoat bit to his current 'skirt'.

So aside fomr neatening and everything, the vamp is almost done, the throne needs some neatening, pennant poles put on and securing chains attached.

Cheers.

Another quick bit...

Just got a few more bits being done currently.

I apologise for the blurryness as I took a quick pic for y'all this morning..

As you can see above, I've continued work on the 'saddle', just fleshing out the shape etc, by the end of it I intend to have a sort of seat back for him (ideally tall and gothic) with a pair of dual pennants fluttering also

Small update...

So a small update for you all. As above you can see a vampire (Balaur infact) chilling on top of a Forgeworld Magma Dragon.

After exhaustive researching and net- trawling it was the only dragon that was happy mounting the camp on. I'm not sure how much I'm going to dead-er-ise the thing, as:
1. it is a beautiful model, I'd say now my favourite Forgeworld non-vehicle model!
2. To keep it in theme with the undead-i-gryph and the nightmares, both of which aren't like falling a part.

Anyway, have done some more work on him tonight, will get some more pics up as progress is being made.

Cheers!

Photo Dump

I've been hideously lazy I know, I just figured I'd dump a bunch of photos up as I starting pulling my finger out and working back into the hobby!

Apologies with pics

Hello again all.

I've been slack I know. Was just a little Warhammered out over the last week (started building a Cerastus Knight titan to cleanse the palate).

Anyway didn't fair amazingly at Rumble in the Bronx (the tournament) but was chuffed by the fact that the 2 guys I got beaten got Best General and 2nd Overall, so I can deal with that. Finished 30th out of 70 odd so doable.

One (of many) upshot(s) was I managed to snag players choice for the tournament so was pretty chuffed with that, scored a sweet trophy and an Empire Griffon (hello Terrorghiest, excellent idea from a mate of mine on the trip home).

Anyway finished pictures of the army, that I can do now. Took a few cheeky pics last night as I was debagging/boxing them for the display cabinet/storage.

Anyway, first up is Lord Balaur in with the skellingtons..

Punching along...

Hey all!

Just 2 days away from the tournament and I'm so close to finishing the army it hurts..

Just need to finish 2 necromancers (they have base colours blocked on) and 3 banners. I've also whipped up a display board over the last couple of nights.

Also finally finished Balaur as in, as you can see above, he now has his shield attached and is for all intents and purposes finished!! (apologies for the quality of the pic)

Next up I have my first attempt at a fee hand banner. This one will be in the Skeleton command, I thought it fitting for the unit Balaur is in to have a decent banner.

Nagash...thoughts/worries....

So being a blog predominantly about old mate vamps and their undeath, the heralding of the approaching 'Legions of Undeath' aswell as the Undeath magic lore are a bit of a worry I must say..

From the small amounts of info gleaned it looks like law of undeath allows people to summon undead units, which is fine and cool. The only issue is though, that apparently any race has access to it. So sort of kills some of the uniqueness to VC which is a shame (if true).

They're also releasing Mortarchs or something to that effect, which Consist of, Arkhan the Black, Neferata The vampire queen (not to be confused with Marceline), and old mate Manfred.

Seems also that Nagash has sat the vamps and tomb kings down, slapped them around a little and said play nice, so now they're one big undead happy family.

This has some positives and negatives.

I'd love to have some skeleton archers and a catapult in my army.

Negatives if if GW goes and combines them either into thier own Armybook (I doubt) we'll loose a shit tonne of flavour.

If GW opts to add them into a 'Undead Legions' armybook, I have a feeling it will out class both armies at their own game, which is a bit of a worry.

Anyway I shall link you to a blog with many pictures...

Nagash and Undead Legion pics.

I must say Nagash is cool and all, but similar to both 40k and fantasy of 'need more skulls for grimdark' they've just went 'needs more skeletal bits cos undead..' which is a bit naff in my opinion but hey, he looks better than the old model I suppose......

Progress...of sorts...

So just a little update as to how I'm traveling with my dead lines, I'm up to the last leg of the race and god willing I should make it. I still have 2 weeks until the dead line so I'm almost there.

A couple of weeks ago I showed you this:

July
18th
Complete 15 wolves (DONE!!)
25th
5 Zombies + 15x Zombie Base(DONE!!)
1st Aug
5 Blood Knights (4 Blood Knights and the Vargryph)
8th
5 Zombies + 15x Zombie Base (just need to finish the 15x Base)
15th
5 Varghiests (3 made and undercoated)
22nd
3 Characters
25th

So Currently it is looking like this:
July
18th
Complete 15 wolves (DONE!!)
25th
5 Zombies + 15x Zombie Base(DONE!!)
1st Aug
5 Blood Knights (4 Blood Knights and the Vargryph) (Done*)
8th
5 Zombies + 15x Zombie Base (just need to finish the 15x Base)
15th
5 Varghiests (3 made and undercoated) (Done*)
22nd
3 Characters
25th

*Needs finishing touches eg, matt varnish and blood splatter.

So this leaves me with a glorious :
2 Necromancers
5 Skeles (got some cursed company that I want to mix in),
3 zombies + Corpse pile (for the 15x Zombie base)
and to paint 4 banners (2 zombie banners, 1 Skele Banner and 1 Blood Knight banner).

When they're done its all done. I reckon I can have the zombies and skeles sorted by the weeks end, then its a matter of going to town on the banners and basing everything in one giant batch *gulp*.

Will get some pics of the varghiests up soon, I've done, well what I think, is an interesting conversion on 2 of them to make them a little less bestial and a little more...cunning...

Until next time...

Monday 11 August 2014

Bloody Blood Knights..

So finally have the Blood Knights at say, 95% finished (need shields, weapons, blood and basing).

While I must say it is these models that made me go VC and I would rate them as my favourite models produced by GW and I reckon would be the best looking Cav models available.

While there are so many good things, there are down sides.
1. I have the metal ones so they are heavy as sin
2.Lances where too large and shonky looking
3. The disparity of the heads, some look really good (The ones you get 1 per pack) some look a bit lack lustre (the non winged ones, that you get a couple per pack).
4.Horse diversity, there is 5 models in the pack and 2 horses look almost like exact doubles.

Anway aside from those issues I love the models.

Also with my Blood Knights I opted to give them each a little back story to help fill in on their conversions.

First up we have this fellow.
This is Temur Unegen, a Kislevite hunter/tracker that gave a good account of himself when attempting to kill Balaur in the Kislevite region.

Friday 8 August 2014

Progress!!.... The Lord walks!

So all loyal readers....

As promised finally some pictures of the Blood Dragons that are within my army.

As a whole they still need complete finishing (basing, blood, shields and lances)but they are pretty much done and I'm pretty wrapped with them.

First I'll throw up the head honcho, Lord Balaur himself.

Friday 1 August 2014

A cold blooded account...

Hey all.

Still cracking along with the Blood Dragons and should have them finished in the next couple of days (Life and GF permitting ;) ).

Anyway I'll get the quick fluff-report up, again no pictures so apologies for that guys, but please CC the hell out of me if you see any issues and what not with it.

Enjoy.

Locuitor Din Bezna looked across the field at the cold-blooded Lizardmen facing him down. He had been assigned by Lord Balaur, his sire and master, to safe guard the two necromancers that where currently in the Skeleton Regiment with him.

The Cursed Book.....of fluff

So you're all probably going to need to probably deal with some constant posts for the minute due to me punching through some modelling.

Although saying that there won't be any pictures in these posts as the Blood Dragon stuff is currently all getting painted (reds and silvers done) on all the appropriate models.

Anyway I thought I'd chuck up some parts of fluff that I've been slowly jotting down and sorting out for my army.

Wednesday 30 July 2014

Pictures, finally, as promised!...

Ok last night I managed to get all Blood Dragon Models (4 Blood Knights, 1 Demi-ghulf, 1 unit filler vamp, 1 vamp lord) at least undercoated and first couple of layers for armour sorted.

I also managed to get a few pictures of the almost finished (basing needs to be done) unit filler containing the Bastilidon as well as a pic one (of 3) of my Hawkins Dire Wolves.

So first I give you the wolves.

Dying over here.... Inspiration and Deadlines..(geddit)

Yes indeed I've been beyond slack with this blog recently, but I must say I've been working quite industriously to get my army made for the tournament on the 30th and 31st of August.

Dead lines are as follows, I use the dates of Fridays as the end of said week, allowing the weekend as sort of a grace period for the last week or next if needed.

Tuesday 15 July 2014

Still (not)alive!!

Seems I have been quite lazy here recently and for that I apologise,

Currently just hit a brief downward spiral when we drive the hobby too hard (we all know that feeling ;) ). But anyway just got back off a, well not really, relaxing 2 weeks holidays which backed straight onto a backyard tournament with me and some mates. It was really just an excuse for a drink and catch up but consisted of 3 slabs of booze, lunch on the Saturday and a bottle of Bourbon for the winner.

Being winter down in Melbourne the weather over the two days moved between sunny and warm to hailing and sideways rain, then back and forward between those polar opposites. Either way we had 2 tables in the garage and 2 under the rather large patio.

** Quick warning, this is going to be all about the wall of text, if you are interested in brief run down battle reports, tactics and thoughts, enjoy! If not, well thank you for reading but you may want to pop back when I put a post with pictures up ;) **

The 'Ghulf War

Howdy denizens of the night.

Just another quick hobby update while I have a spare 10 minutes.

Logic/story behind this. So if you've been reading the blog you should be well aware that I like both Blood Dragons fluff and having Vampiric units within my army. Now most of those selections are sitting in rare which make things a mite tight. Anyway, looking into them, I was tossing upbetween the Black Coach and the Varghulf (Blood Knights where a given).

Battles, reality and unit fillers... Oh my..

Back again, it has been over a week since an update so muchacho apologies there.

Managed to have a game (arse whooping)  down at a local games club (Hampton Games Club) on Saturday which was fantastic to get some rules myself and the group have been playing incorrectly. Was also good to get a feel for what our upcoming tournament will be like. It also opened my eyes to how many mother-clucking zombies I'm going to need, thus the unit filler had got put on...

I purchased the above a while ago in thoughts of making it a unit filler, but had been lazily sauntering along until Saturday, that put my arse in gear.

B...B...Blood Coach?

Hey all,

Back from my holiday on the Carnival Spirit. I must say it being my first cruise it was quite awesome and the ship was mind bogginingly huge! Food was amazing and it would seem all of my clothes are now just a little tighter ;).

Anyway, didn't get much hobby done while on the boat (shock horror) but some ideas did pop to the fore in my decrepit mind...

Tuesday 27 May 2014

Liebster and a cruise

Hello all.

Been a bit slack recently sorry due to bashing away at getting all the stuff you always leave to the last minute prior to a holiday to get ready. That and the missus managed to bust her big toe last night (doh!) and the cruise is tomorrow. But I must say I think she didn't enjoy the pun-ishing amount of toetally awesome toe puns... as did the doctor.

Anyway I thought I'd quickly chuck up a post and say farewell for 11 days and I do promise I'll get some more images of work up when back.

Now onto the Liebster.

Thursday 22 May 2014

2000pts....

That pretty much sums it up.

So I'll back track a bit. Was informed the other day of a tournament coming up in a place called Geelong, where both myself and friends have attended the last 2 years to play a 40k tournament. It's great as it's a little bit away from home (2 hour drive) so it sort of forces a boys weekend on us which is fantastic.

The only difference is this is a different event and for Fantasy, which is awesome! But the possibility of the group gathering 2000pts each in 3months in slim at best.

We had organised for a small 'in-house' tournament for all of us halfway through July at 1200pts, which should of been easily attainable.

Now I doubt I'll have any issues mustering the models (as the 1200pts is almost complete) but my friends, well that's another issue entirely.

Tuesday 20 May 2014

Vargheist...the most ghostly of the Vars...

So Vargheists.

I think the models are great, except for the 'Bart-mill' sculpt.
Going to punch the air like this...

So naturally I had to convert up the little cherubs as I'm all for the Simpsons and their excellent references, but I'm more than happy to keep them out of my grim-dark fantasy setting.

Monday 19 May 2014

Skeletons in your closet, Itchin' to come outside....

So I managed to squeeze out a relatively productive weekend which I was happy with. I managed to finish off and base (and movement tray) my unit of skeletons, I have 38 worth of skeletons built, so allows some wiggle room for Master of the Dead in my 1200 pt list.

I started off making the skeletons in a phalanx, but after reading up on rules it would seem having the 6+ Parry is far better than an extra rank of still shitty attacks. Here is how the fist 20 Skeletons looked.

Wednesday 14 May 2014

In your heeeaadd.....

So I thought I'd throw up some pictures of my Core conversions.

First up just a quick pic of a dire wolf.
Woof

Monday 12 May 2014

List of the Dead..

So after a bumper weekend of painting I have a fair amount of my models painted.

I'll quickly jot down my current list with either a (U) Under-coated, (P) Painted or (B) Based and completely done, next to each.

Lords
Master Necro w/ (U)
Master of the Dead
Lvl 4 Vamps

Heroes
Necromancer w/ (U)
Ironcurse Icon
Lvl 1 Vamps

Vampire w/ (U)
Heavy Armour
Flying horror
Book of Arkhan
Enchanted Shield
Sword of Striking
Lvl 1 Shadow

Core
5x Direwolves (U)
5x Direwolves(U)
21 x Skeletons w/ (B)
Full Command
Banner of swiftness

20 Zombies w/ (P)
Muso, Standard

Special
3x Vargheists (U)

Rare
4x Blood Knights w/ (U)
SB and Flag of Blood Keep

So I'm quite chuffed that I've got my army built and under coated. Most of the models in the army have been touched by greenstuff and the knife, I will quickly pop down what's been done with some pics in the next post.

Have a good one

Friday 9 May 2014

Lighting the Darkness

Hey All.

Little hobby update.

So I've started trying out colour schemes for my Blood Knights that I want to get a pic up for, (and I shall), but I got a delivery in the mail last night, a Foldio.

For those that don't know, they are essentially a little light box, that can fold up. They have one or tow LED strips that run off of a 9v battery. I saw one on another blog recently and opted to buy one, so here are a few quick pics to show the results.

So I'm quite pleased with how the single lighting bar works (only had the one 9v battery).

Wednesday 7 May 2014

Meet the crew....

So a quick introduction to the group that I will be duking it out in the old world with.

Cles: my current housemate. Back (or forward?) in 40k he ran a few armies, including orks, lots of them, Imperial guard and good old Dark angels. He has opted (after a brief stint with Beastmen) to take control of the cold-blooded Lizardmen from Lustria. So far seems to be learning pretty well and loves using the Bastilidon, that now within the group is referred to as the Broke-stilidon.

Griggling . After possible thoughts of going Bretonnia, he opted for the Dwarfs (godamnit GW) after getting wind that a new Army Book would be inbound. Evidently he was comfortable to continue to use the same tactics as his 40k’s Tau gun line ;). Has a very shooty army, which generally involves you getting shot at, a lot, for a few turns until you hit his rock hard Dwarven warriors, or quarrelers.

Salutations!

So, first post on a fantasy blog. Bring it on I say.
I’ve recently gotten my group to convert to fantasy after many years of 40k. We’ve gotten a little burnt out and disgusted with the way it is currently going and opted to jump into the ‘classic’ that is fantasy.

If you haven’t guessed by the title, or rocking Blood Dragon in the back ground, I’ve opted to go for Vampire Counts, as I love the look of the skeletons and at one time started an Undead Mordhiem warband.

After letting myself go and really getting on the F-Train I must say I’m loving it (Hmm, sounds like I just got really fat, but I digress). While the lore behind all of it is a little bit more generic than 40k, it is still rich and different enough from other sorts of high fantasy settings.
